The Cape Elizabeth Capers will be participating in a junior varsity league at the sparkling new Casco Bay Arena this winter, the organization announced on Friday. The school had been considering taking the leap for the league's inaugural season and pen was put to paper on Friday afternoon by Cape Elizabeth athletic director Jeff Thoreck, ensuring the Capers will play at least 10 games against top JV competition from around the area.

The official slate of teams in the league is not yet known, but it is expected that Falmouth, Greely, Yarmouth, Windham and a selection of other local schools will be participating, giving the upstart league 8 member associations for it's first year. The Capers JV team went 8-4-2 last season but had 5 games cancelled due to snow, making the consistent schedule especially appealing for the organization.

All of the games will be played on Friday night, mostly between 5:30 and 9:00 p.m. with teams rotating slots weekly. The Capers JV squad will also use the Casco Bay Arena, a $2 million project several years in the making, as it's practice arena beginning with the upcoming season. The official schedule has not been confirmed for the JV league but is expected to be completed by November.
